1 DEPARTURE FROM NORTH AMERICA
Enjoy
full meal service on your scheduled wide-bodied flight
to Vienna.
DAY
2 VIENNA (2 NIGHTS)
You will be met at the airport by your tour manager/guide
who will accompany you to your hotel in Vienna, capital of
Austria and for 600 years the glittering capital of the
Hapsburg Empire. Vienna has an incomparable musical
heritage and is the city of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert,
Hayden, Brahms and Johann Strauss. This afternoon we will take a
Walking Tour
through old Vienna,
which will include the Hoher Markt, where we
will see Virgin Mary’s Wedding Fountain and an
Art Nouveau clock, the Altes Rathaus, the
former town hall, the old Chancellery of Bohemia,
the Clock Museum, and St. Peter’s Church.
DAY
3 VIENNA
We begin this morning in the Old City with a visit to St.
Stephen's Cathedral, one of the greatest Gothic
structures in Europe. St. Stephen’s is rich in
woodcarvings, altars, sculptures, and paintings, including
one showing the scene of the double marriage between the
Hapsburg, Bohemian and Hungarian dynasties in 1515 that laid
the foundation of the Austrian Empire. We will continue to
the Hofburg Palace, a complex of imperial edifices
which grew with the empire, so that today the palace is
virtually a city within a city. Our visit will include the
Imperial Apartments; the Imperial Treasury,
featuring the crown jewels and an assortment of imperial
riches.
· Your
First Concert Performance will be today
DAY
4 VIENNA - WACHAU - MELK - SALZBURG AREA (2 NIGHTS)
Our morning drive takes us to the Wachau where we will take
a River Cruise, viewing the vineyards, the pretty
riverside villages and the castles which dominate the crests
of the surrounding hillsides. Arriving at Melk we will
visit the Abbey of St Peter and St Paul which
dominates this town with its Baroque architecture. Leaving
the town we continue our journey to Salzburg, the Baroque
city of music forever associated with Mozart.
DAY
5 SALZBURG
Our morning begins with a Walking Tour through the
Old City, a maze of meandering lanes, curious steeples,
cobbled streets and spacious squares. Here we will view
Mozart's Birthplace, the Old Square, the Cathedral, and the
Residenz. A highlight of our walk will be the
Glockenspiel, an early 18th century carillon
with 35 bells, which we can hear from one of the cafes
lining the edges of the Mozartplatz, while sipping
our favorite coffee or drink. We continue with a visit to
the Residenz, Salzburg’s opulent palace, which was
the seat of the Salzburg prince-archbishops. The child
prodigy Mozart often played in the Conference Room for
guests, and in 1867, Emperor Franz Joseph received Napoléon
III in the palace. We will enjoy a tour of the richly
decorated State Rooms before
concluding our
afternoon on
Salzburg’s most famous street, the Getreidegasse,
which is lined with small shops, interesting houses and
wrought-iron signs.
· Your Second Concert Performance
will be today
DAY

a large and important collection of Dutch and Flemish
paintings. Our visit to the Old Town will include
the performing Glockenspiel (a carillon with colored
figures depicting jousting knights) in Marienplatz,
the square in the heart of old Munich. There will be time
to visit elegant shopping areas and to explore the
entertaining Schwabing Quarter.
