EcoTours: Explore and Be Inspired

The environment has become a major concern of many people over the recent years. Our awareness of global warming, overfishing, the destruction of the rainforests, and many other ecological concerns have dominated the news.

Similarly, many human communities are in crisis, or in need of serious help. Poverty, lack of sanitation or education, poor-quality housing, inadequate infrastructure, war, and disease have caused tremendous problems for many of the world’s communities.

We at Casterbridge believe that educating young people and adults in the effects of environmental degradation and the human impact, and showing them practical ways in which the world is trying to reverse those effects, is a valuable travel experience.

EcoTours

Of the three levels of Planet Earth programs, our EcoTours provide an introductory experience to service learning and volunteerism. In tours of 8-14 days, every EcoTour offers 1, or occasionally 2 days of service, with the rest of your tour comprising visits to communities and sites that fully capture the culture and natural wonder of the country or region you have chosen to visit.

EcoTours are inspirational journeys of exploration with an emphasis on nature, ecology, and wildlife, where your program will contain one or two charitable visits or service experiences.

All Planet Earth Programs Can be Tailored to Your Precise Needs

Every Planet Earth travel tour is custom designed to fit your group’s age range and thematic emphasis. It will be your own private service learning experience customized by you to fit your precise cultural or service desires and the educational emphasis of your choosing, be it science, the environment, nature and wildlife or authentic immersion into another culture.

Young People

Our Planet Earth EcoTours are designed to light the spark that could cultivate in students a lifelong commitment to science, the environment, service and leadership. We hope they will promote understanding of local issues, as well as a deeper understanding of the interrelatedness of communities and the environment around the world.

For Older Participants

Usually, older travelers have a wealth of practical skills they can offer to other communities, whether they are medical skills, scientific skills, engineering skills, teaching skills, computer skills, or any of a host of practical accomplishments they can share with willing sharers. And it is also older participants who can most effectively take back the lessons they have learned from their EcoTour experience to be implemented back home.

One Example of an EcoTour: Community Service in South Africa

Experience a 10-day EcoTour to Johannesburg and Cape Town with volunteer days in Soweto and Cape Town.

The tour begins in Johannesburg. It spends a day in Soweto and a day at the Sterkfontein Caves, where some of the most important discoveries about the evolution of man were made. After a flight to Cape Town, the tour visits Robben Island and Duiker Island, with a day’s volunteering in a community project and a visit to Table Mountain.

You are three simple steps from making a difference:

STEP ONE – Choose your thematic emphasis from the following categories:

  • Science and the Environment
  • Nature and Wildlife
  • Community and Contribution

STEP TWO – Select Your Desired Level of Service Involvement from:

  • EcoTours
  • Contributours
  • VolunTours

STEP THREE – Nominate the Country Which You Would Like to Discover or Where You Would Like to Make a Difference From the Numerous Destinations Currently in our Portfolio
