# 59 THE HISTORIC AND MODERN CITY OF BERLIN, BRANDENBURG
Berlin is Germany's capital city and a city with a unique and fascinating history. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city has become one of the great cities in Europe, combining a rich history with a modern flavor. Be sure to include visits to the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the Reichstag, the Pergamon Museum, Charlottenburg Palace, and the spectacular and diverse art museums and galleries throughout the city.
# 60 THE TREASURES OF THE ZWINGER IN DRESDEN, SAXONY
Dresden was a city in Eastern Germany that was decimated by the Allied bombings of World War II, yet today has been restored to much of it former glory. The Zwinger is a massive and beautiful Baroque building with a stunning inner courtyard surrounded by important galleries. Housed within the complex is the Old Master's Gallery, with an important collection of European painting, and the Rustkammer, with armory and arms from the 16th century.
# 61 COLOGNE CATHEDRAL, RHINELAND
Cologne Cathedral (Kolner Dom) is the most famous Gothic structure in Germany and features wonderful stained-glass windows, massive Gothic oak Stalls, and a stunning High Altar. Highlighting the cathedral are the Shrine of the Three Kings, a huge Romanesque reliquary said to hold relics of the Three Kings, and the Altar of the Magi, the work of Stephan Lochner.
# 62 HEIDELBERG CASTLE, RHINELAND
Heidelberg is situated on the banks of the Neckar River and one of Germany's most beautiful towns. High above the city is Heidelberg Castle, a dignified ruin and one of the finest Gothic-Renaissance castles in Germany. A local guide will take you through the Palace of Friedrich IV, featuring the gallery of princes and kings from the time of Charlemagne, the Wine Vat Building for a look at the Great Cask, and the Chemist's Tower.

The Romantic Road is the name given to an old trading route through central and southern Germany, and is made up of medieval walled cities, towns, and villages that retain their past charm and character. # 64 THE ART TREASURES IN THE ALTE PINAKOTEK, MUNICH
The Alte Pinakotek, in Munich, is one of the most important art museums in Europe. Begun as a small court collection by the royal Wittelsbach family in the early 1500's, today there are close to 900 paintings on display and most of the great European artists from the 14th to the 18th century are represented including important works by Botticelli, Raphael, Titian, Durer, Holbein, Rembrandt, Rubens, Bruegel, and El Greco.

Neuschwanstein Castle, the brainchild of "Mad" King Ludwig II, is one of Germany's top attractions and one of the most recognizable castles in the world. Set picturesquely in the heart of Bavaria, the castle is situated on an outcrop of rock towering over a gorge in the River Pollat. In addition to a tour of the castle, a visit offers stunning panoramic views of the countryside and mountains. We recommend taking a relaxing Carriage Ride to the entrance.
