# 1 SALISBURY CATHEDRAL, WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND
Salisbury Cathedral is one of the great cathedrals of Europe and, at one time, the tallest building in Britain. The massive Spire dominates the skyline of Salisbury, while the interior provides the visitor with a feeling of amazement. The 13th-century octagonal Chapter House of the Cathedral is a highlight of the visit as it holds one of only 4 remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
# 2 THE ANCIENT CITY OF BATH, SOMERSET, ENGLAND
Bath is one of the most charming and beautiful cities in Europe and was an easy choice for our list. The highlight of any trip to Bath is the magnificent Roman Baths, built on the natural springs that gave birth to the city. Bath is also a magnificent city in terms of Architecture, and a Walking tour past the Royal Crescent, the Circus, and across Pulteney Bridge, are musts for any visitor.
# 3 BLENHEIM PALACE, OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND
The extravagantly Baroque Blenheim Palace is the home of the 11th duke of Marlborough, descendant of the first duke John Churchill. The first duke became the supreme military figure in Europe. Fighting on the Danube near a village named Blenheim, Churchill defeated the forces of Louis XIV, and the lavish palace of Blenheim was built for the duke as a gift from the Queen. The palace is also the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.
# 4 THE UNIVERSITY CITY OF CAMBRIDGE, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, ENGLAND
Cambridge is best known for beautiful colleges that make up Cambridge University, one of Europe's great educational institutions. Cambridge has retained much of its medieval appearance, highlighted by Kings College Chapel, famous for its glorious fan vaulted ceiling and considered the most elegant example of perpendicular architecture in England.
# 5 THE TOWER OF LONDON, LONDON, ENGLAND
The Tower of London is one of Britain's most fascinating and important historical structures and one of London's top attractions. The complex within its walls is highlighted by the Armories, a display of instruments of torture and execution which recall some of the most ghastly moments in the Tower's history, and the Crown Jewels, featuring of the world's most precious stones.
# 6 LEEDS CASTLE AND GARDENS, KENT, ENGLAND
Often called "The loveliest Castle in the World," Leeds Castle and Gardens is a wonderful visit for any visitor to Great Britain. In addition to the spectacular castle, which is surrounded by a large moat, the 500-acre grounds feature a Dog Collar Museum, an Aviary with exotic birds from around the world, a spectacular Maze of Hedges, and a secret underground Grotto.
# 7 THE SCENIC LAKE DISTRICT, LANCASHIRE & CUMBRIA, ENGLAND
The rugged beauty of the Lake District has appealed to many poets and writers through the ages, including William Wordsworth, whose Dove Cottage is a major attraction. He was part of the Romantic Movement, based on a love of nature and freedom, and the Lake District provided the perfect backdrop for their writings. Today the scenery and freedom still amaze all visitors to England.
# 8 YORK MINSTER, YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND
The medieval walled city of York is one of the great places to see in England and spectacular York Minster dominates the city skyline. The church traces its origin from the early 7th century and features stunning Stained Glass Windows dating back to the Middle Ages. Those who choose to can ascend the Central Tower, for stunning panoramic views over York.
# 9 TINTERN ABBEY, MONMOUTHSHIRE, ENGLAND
Straddling the English/Welsh border, known as the Wye Valley, lies the inspiring ruins of Tintern Abbey. This abbey has been forever immortalized in Wordsworth's sonnet which was composed a few miles above the abbey. Much of the 13th century abbey still stands and its picturesque setting among wooded slopes in a winding valley made it a place of pilgrimage for the Romantic poets.
# 10 THE CITY OF EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and a city with a rich historical and literary past. Any visit to Edinburgh should include: Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city; a walk down the Royal Mile; the High Kirk of St. Giles; and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, built by James IV, adjacent to an Augustinian abbey David I established in the 12th century.
