As a result it's rife with temples, shrines, imperial palaces, and traditional wooden homes. Kyoto is also home to the nation's greatest concentration of craft artisans, famous for its shops dealing in textiles, dyed fabrics, pottery, bambooware, cutlery, metalwork, fans, and umbrellas.

# 87 THE STUNNING BEAUTY OF HAKONE & MOUNT FUJI, JAPAN

A visit to the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park will offer visitors just about everything a vacationer could wish for including hot-spring resorts, mountains, lakes, and breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. 	The world-famous Taj Mahal is surely the greatest monument to love, as well as one of the architectural wonders of the modern world. The monument was completed in 1652 by skilled craftsmen from Persia, Turkey, France, and Italy. Over 20,000 laborers worked for 17 years to build this edifice, commisioned by emperor Shah Jehan as a mausoleum for his beloved Queen, Mumtaz Mahal.

The ancient city of Ephesus is one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Highlights of the visit include: the Amphitheater, where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians; the impressive remains of the Library of Celsus; and ancient Roman Streets, with original mosaics still intact.
