VERSAILLES & PARIS - FIRST CONCERT
This morning
we visit the Cathedral of Notre Dame, begun in 1163
on a spot that had already been a religious shrine since Roman
times. Over the centuries, the Cathedral has been the
scene of some of France's most momentous occasions, including
the coronation of Napoleon. Later
we stroll through the Jardin des Tuileries, the beautiful
Neo-Classical gardens that lead to the entrance of the Louvre,
one of the world's greatest museums, which began as a
fortress in the 1200’s and was built up over the centuries
into one of Europe’s largest palaces. Among the
most loved of the Louvre's estimated 400,000 items are the
delicate Venus De Milo and Leonardo da Vinci's enigmatic
Mona Lisa.
